From the introduction: “Book I is basically a book about fishes of the Western Pacific, primarily those found around the coral reefs of the Ryukyu Islands and for this reason we have taken the photos from the basic work of two Japanese scientists (Dr. Yoshio Hiyama and Dr. Fujio Yasuda), prepared a new text, brought the nomenclature up to date and presented it as our first volume, with about 400 species represented in color.
