Few places in the world compare to Velaa Private Island. This ultra-exclusive boutique hideaway island is set in the azure seas of the Indian Ocean. The Maldivian retreat takes its name from the sea turtles that inhabit the region. In fact, seen from the air, Velaa’s exclusive over-watervillas resemble the head of a turtle with the island forming the body. Designed by Czech architect Petr Kolar, the overall concept is contemporary, yet intimate, with Maldivian influences. There are many private islands in the Maldives, but very few of them are actually privately owned by a single person.
